Overview

We are looking for for an officer level position in the Land Management Team that will help deliver the day to day practical management of the Trust’s nature reserves, including assisting with livestock husbandry duties in the region when required.

The West Region lies between Tewkesbury in the North and Chepstow in the South of the county, with nature reserves clustered in the stunning Lower Wye Valley, central Forest of Dean, Newent triangle and Severn Vale.

The role will support the land management team in the delivery of a full and varied work programme across the region. The post holder will lead on supervising weekly volunteer work parties to achieve conservation objectives across a diverse range of habitats, including heathland, ancient woodland, floodplain meadows, quarries, species rich grasslands and wetlands.

We are seeking to appoint a responsible and enthusiastic candidate looking to take their next career step in conservation management. With a passion for protecting wildlife, the post holder will ideally have previous habitat management experience with a particular interest in heathland/wetlands. Equally comfortable working individually or as part of a team, the candidate will have a diplomatic and personable demeanour, capable of engaging and enthusing both volunteers and members of the public. The role will suit an adaptable person who already holds relevant vocational certificates and has a wide range of practical land management skills.

Gloucestershire accommodates a rich and varied landscape, ranging from the Cotswold calcareous grasslands and beech woodlands in the east, heathlands and ancient woodlands of the Forest of Dean and Wye valley in the west, and river Severn floodplain meadows more centrally. Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust works to connect and improve the county’s wildlife and wild places, managing important designated habitats which support national and European protected species. In the west region GWT and its partners have embarked upon exciting landscape scale projects to create bigger, better and more connected ecological networks. The nature reserves provide the focal point for a Living Landscape vision where people and wildlife can thrive.
